Frequently Asked Questions
Is Termidor safe?
Termidor is one of the most thoroughly reviewed termite control products in history. Termidor has been assessed by the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicine Authority and Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing and is fully approved for use in domestic situations. Termidor is applied at some of the lowest doses of any of the termiticides available today and in addition, the active ingredient is used extensively on food crops around the world and as the leading product for flea and tick control on dogs and cats in Australia since 1996.
Can I buy Termidor and do the treatment myself?
No. Termidor is made available to licensed pest control professionals only, who have been trained in correct application methods.
What pest control company do you recommend?
BASF is in the process of conducting a nationwide Termidor Accreditation training course. A list of Accredited Termidor Applicators is available on this website.
Will Termidor get back to the nest?
Thanks to Termidor's unique "Transfer Effect™", termites don't even need to ingest or contact the termiticide in order to die from it. All they need to do is make contact with another termite that has already contacted or ingested Termidor. This is because termites that come into contact with Termidor collect it on their bodies. They then become carriers that spread the termiticide to other termites. And the "Transfer Effect" doesn't quite end there. Secondarily affected termites can also pass Termidor on to others and indeed may wipe out the entire colony. Termites are social insects that live together in large colonies and feed and groom each other. The "Transfer Effect" makes the most of this. It's a key reason why no other termiticide performs as well as Termidor.
Will Termidor leave an odour?
No, Termidor is odour free.
How long does it last?
When applied according to the label as a soil treatment, Termidor will remain effective at deterring concealed entry into a building by subterranean termites for at least 8 years against ALL TERMITE SPECIES - a claim no other termite control product can make.
PCO's sprayed my home using Termidor, 2 weeks ago, and they are still active. What is going on?
Assuming the pest control operator has been successful in placing Termidor in the areas where the termites are moving through the soil, the average time taken from treatment to complete elimination of activity is approximately 4 weeks. This is the fastest of any of the current termite elimination products.
Why should I choose a Termidor treatment over other products?
Termidor is the premium termite control product on the Australian market for a number of reasons but in simple terms, Termidor works... and works quickly. The product has been proven across Australia and throughout the world. Only Termidor has the unique "Transfer Effect" which means that the product not only provides a barrier to termite entry, but may also be transferred to other termites and wipe out the entire colony.
Termidor has been extensively tested under Australian conditions, including the treatment of 22 termite-infested houses across five states under an experimental use permit. The results were outstanding, with 100% control achieved (on average) within 4.3 weeks. Baiting systems can take many months to years to control a colony, plus there is no guarantee termites heading for, or already eating your home, will find or feed at the bait stations at all.
Termidor is non-repellent, this means that they cannot detect the product and will not avoid the treated area. As a result, termites continue to forage through the soil until they encounter the Termidor treated zone and pick up a lethal dose. With repellant termiticides, gaps in the treatment may be found and exploited by termites, and this means failure.
